Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers notice how western rural landscapes work and change. Send proposals through the Contact page, with the subject line or message identifying them as a writing pitch.
What we are looking for
Strong proposals begin with a specific question about a landscape feature, route, boundary, settlement pattern or map-reading habit. We favour focused, evergreen ideas that can be explained clearly and safely without specialist instructions, local rule checks or claims that one example represents every place.
A useful pitch
Tell us the working title, the central question, the main idea readers will take away and why the subject suits Western Daily Dispatch. Add a short outline and note any sources or image needs. A pitch is a proposal, not a guarantee of publication; please do not send a complete article unless requested.
Clarity and care
We value precise observation, readable explanations and a clear line between what can be seen and what is inferred. Use plain language, explain specialist terms and avoid unsupported claims about the history or purpose of a feature. Contributions should be original and should not rely on invented examples presented as fact.
The landscape is a record of choices
Fields, paths and boundaries are not just scenery. Read together, they offer a way to notice how land has been used and how places connect.
